Ecological mapping identified constraints and opportunities for development and also addressed planning requirements. Expert witness testimony and material were presented at an Ontario Municipal Board Hearing.

Barrie Annexation Nottawasage River
Ontario Township of Vespra Environmental assessment of proposed work on drainage systems and subsequent impacts on stream morphology, water quality, wildlife, and other downstream land uses. Expert witness testimony and materials were presented to an Ontario Municipal Board Hearing.

Beach Quarries Bay of Funday
New Brunswick Mines Division Natural Resources Environmental assessment of beach quarrying activities on coastal zone resources. Development of recommendations and a management plan to address conflicts of quarries with other Coastal resources and land use activities.

Kitts-Michelin Uranium Mine Labrador British Newfoundland Exploration Limited Participation in an environmental assessment process for a new 135 km access road corridor and uranium mining operation. Responsibilities included airphoto interpretation, hydrogeology, surficial geology, soils, plant ecology, environmental impact prediction and the formulation of proposals for mitigation. Reports and maps were presented to a Newfoundland Provincial Environmental Assessment Hearing.

Rural Estate Residential Planning Study Palgrave
Ontario Town of Caledon Natural environment assessment component of an Estate Planning Study. Responsibilities included the prediction of development impacts on groundwater, vegetation, wildlife and aesthetic resources, and preparation of mitigative measures.

Aggregate Quarries Campobello Island Tourism New Brunswick Environmental assessment of beach quarries and stockpiling of aggregate on Herring Cove Beach. Preparation of recommendations and plans for quarry rehabilitation.

Environmental Monitoring Hinds Lake Reservoir
Newfoundland Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro Water quality monitoring of recently flooded terrain in a hydroelectric reservoir. Project also included evaluation of the reservoir’s clearing program on shoreline and wildlife habitat development, and vegetation succession.

Lower Churchill River Power Project Labrador Newfoundland Labrador Hydro Participation in a Federal Environmental Assessment and Review Office Hearings for Muskrat Falls and Gull Island hydroelectric developments. Expert environmental witness materials included a Biophysical Resource Survey from Churchill Falls to Goose Bay for the Churchill River Valley and a Reservoir Preparation Strategy to mitigate impacts of flooding. Developments were approved in principle by the FEARO board.

Grand River Bridge Six Nations

Ontario Wyllie & Ufnal Ltd. Preparation of an Environmental Screening Report for a proposed bridge and alternate approach road alignments across the Grand River. Report was reviewed by Federal Environment Assessment and Review Office and under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act as a Ministry of Transportation and Communications Environmental Class Document. The bridge and approach road have been constructed.

Parkway Alignment Evaluation Gros Morne National Park Parks Canada
Atlantic Environmental review and evaluation of proposed engineering documents for a parkway alignment in an environmentally sensitive Alpine Valley. Preparation of a report containing recommendations for design alternatives. Study was part of an internal Parks Canada environmental screening process.

Hydroelectric Reservoir Preparation Study Great Cat Arm River
Newfoundland Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro Development of an environmentally acceptable reservoir preparation strategy for a proposed hydroelectric development in a subarctic/alpine environment. Strategy addressed impacts of clearing and loss of riparian and coastal wildlife habitat. Reports and maps were submitted as part of the environmental documentation submitted to a Provincial Environment Review Hearing. The Cat Arm development has been constructed.

Ontario Wyllie & Ufnal Ltd. Participation in engineering design and environmental assessment for a new swing bridge across the Thames River near Chatam. Production of an Environmental Assessment Report to meet specifications for an Ontario Environmental Class Assessment. Bridge has been constructed.

Environmental Overview Grand Banks
Newfoundland Petro Canada Overview report on marine benthic fauna, fish, birds and mammals, and trophic relationships. Report became part of an Environmental Impact Statement and Oil Spill Contingency Plan for an offshore exploratory drilling program.

Official Plan Amendments Caledon
Ontario Town of Caledon Preparation of environmental assessment documents for amendments to the Town’s Official Plan to provide zoning for the Palgrave Rural Estate Residential Planning Area. Expert witness environmental materials were prepared for an Ontario Municipal Board Hearing. Hunter and Associates acts as the Town’s Environmental Consultant, responsible for environmental review of all development proposals in the Planning Area.

Ontario Beaumaries Association Environmental research, evaluation and assessment for a proposed recreational resort complex. Presentation of expert witness testimony and materials to an Ontario Municipal Board Hearing.

Assessment results were integrated in the feasibility analysis for each opportunity.

National Park
Yukon Parks Canada Prairie Region Initial environmental assessment of alternate route alignments and modes of access through an alpine valley with glacial meltwater channels and alluvial and mudflow fans. Valley contains extremely sensitive wildlife habitat and aesthetic resources.

Landfill Site Evaluation Township of Salford
Ontario David Estrin and Township of Salford Environmental assessment of proposed municipal landfill site, including hydrogeological impacts on the area. Preparation of expert environmental materials and testimony for an Ontario Municipal Board Hearing.
