River Ice Video Survey |
|
Hunter and Associates' solid state video cameras and image analysis system were used with Quebec Hydro for analysis of helicopter video ice survey transects on the Lachine Rapids, St. Lawrence River. This work included semi-automated classification of fast and floating anchor ice and floating sheet ice; calculation of percentage ice area and distribution histograms for each video transect, and measurement of ice velocity distribution perpendicular to the flight path by parallax anslysis of overlapping video frames. A total of five aerial transects were flown on eight separate occasions under the supervision of Quebec Hydro. the project also involved Hunter and Associates' fixed base simultaneous camera system for stereo freeze frame of the rapids topography and analytical photogrammetric measurements for mapping and hydraulic surfaces. |
