Networking the United Counties of Prescott and Russell Geographic Information System |
|
Hunter GIS has recently completed the initial phase of assisting the United Counties of Prescott and Russell in the development of a multi-tiered GIS network. The United Counties of Prescott and Russell is the upper tier of a two-tier municipal government which includes the local municipalities of the City of Clarence-Rockland, the Town of Hawkesbury, the Village of Casselman and the townships of Alfred and Plantagenet, Champlain, East Hawkesbury, Nation and Russell. The Counties Main Administration Office is located in L’Original, Ontario. The primary goal of this project was to establish a multi-tiered network that is accessible to local municipalities, schools and the public for access to spatial and attribute database information in a timely, flexible and efficient manner. To achieve this goal, a number of core technologies were utilized, including Autodesk MapGuide, Microsoft Windows NT, Microsoft IIS, Microsoft SQL Server, Allaire’s ColdFusion and Hunter GIS Application Toolkits for MapGuide. The Hunter GIS Application Toolkits contain reusable code permitting rapid development of solutions wrapped around customers’ data and business logic. Query Buffer, Shortest Path, Thematic Mapping and Call Centre Support Tools were central to Solution Development. Hunter GIS configured, loaded and enabled the United Counties server and data at its Mississauga office and provided Extranet access to key United Counties employees and stakeholders to permit participation in solution development and evaluation of remote network access of data sets. Upon completion of this phase, the GIS server will be integrated into the United Counties Information Technology Network. To meet the functional requirements of the proposed multi-tiered GIS network, work included:
The award of this project to Hunter GIS reflected the United Counties desire to obtain a consulting team with advanced capabilities in Web-Based GIS Implementation to ensure the successful development of a multi-tiered GIS network which meets the present and future functional requirements of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell. |
