Oak Ridges Moraine Hydrogeology Study: Overview

Upper Aquifer Static Water Level Contours

The upper aquifer static water level contours are prepared by querying the water well databases (1946 to 1992) prepared as part of this study. These water well databases contain more than 25,000 individual records. The colour shading is by 5m contour interval and is identical to that of the digital terrain model (DTM).

The query for definition of the upper aquifer included wells screened or water found between 280 and 310 m asl for York and Durham Regions and between 280 to 380 m asl for Peel Region. This query was designed to remove "local perched aquifers" and also to ensure data points were available on the higher Niagara Escarpment terrain in Peel Region. Wells less than 15m deep were included below 280 m asl to complete the file in the adjacent lowlands. Settlement names are superimposed for refercence.

This modelling confirms the siginificant regional groundwater recharge and mounding (elevated contours) above the 275 m asl contour.
